FAQs
1. What causes discolouration of teeth?
Teeth discolouration can happen for several causes. The following are the most typical causes of discolouration:
- Growing Older
- Tooth wear brought on by grinding
- Inadequate dental care
- Consumption of coloured foods and beverages, including red wine, cola, coffee, and tea.
- Use of tobacco
- Medication containing tetracycline
- The ingestion of certain antibiotic
- Excessive consumption of fluoride
2. How is teeth whitening performed?
A protective covering protects your gums. The teeth-whitening solution is administered and activated in the dental office using a specific light. Alternatively, you are given whitening gel with a specially constructed bleaching tray at home.
3. Does teeth whitening have any effects?
Some patients may have post-treatment sensitivity. Typically, this sensitivity resolves within 2-3 days. The teeth whitening treatment kit includes a gel that can be applied to reduce sensitivity. If sensitivity persists, a desensitizing toothpaste is given to minimize the sensitivity.
4. How is teeth whitening different from teeth cleaning?
Throughout the cleaning process, macro stains and deposits on the tooth's surface are removed using an ultrasonic tool. Microscopic stains formed in the teeth's pores are removed with teeth whitening.
5. What can I do to have my teeth continue to remain white?
Limiting excessive consumption of coloured beverages such as tea, coffee, and wine can help prevent tooth discolouration. Tobacco (cigarettes and chewing tobacco) is known for staining and discolouring teeth, so avoid using it to keep your teeth bright and white.
6. For how long do the results stay?
Priya Dental team will explain the basic post-whitening maintenance process that must be followed. To improve the effect of teeth whitening, we suggest avoiding coloured beverages, drinks, and tobacco for a few days to a week after the procedure. Alternatively, coloured drinks can be consumed using a straw so they do not contact the front surface of the teeth. We also recommend flossing and cleaning your teeth twice daily to keep them clean and healthy.
